You can update from the Console, or by replacing one file. Either way, your data folder (content, uploads, settings) is never touched.

From the Console (Webfaze 0.9.6.4 and later)

  1. When a new version is out, the Dashboard shows Webfaze X is available with what's new. Press Update now. Or open Tools, look at Updates, press Check again, then Install with the new version number.
  2. Webfaze downloads the release from webfaze.com and installs it only if its signature and checksum match. It saves a full backup first, in your data folder under backups/, and keeps the old file next to the new one.
  3. Restart. If something restarts Webfaze automatically (pm2, Passenger, systemd with the included service file, or WEBFAZE_SUPERVISED=1), press Restart now. Otherwise Tools asks you to restart the app from your hosting panel.

Only people who may update the site (administrators and the owner) see the update card.

By hand

  1. Download the new version from webfaze.com Account → Downloads.
  2. Replace webfaze.cjs on your server with the new one.
  3. Restart the app (in your panel, or systemctl restart webfaze).

Use this when Tools says Webfaze can't replace itself. That happens on servers where Webfaze can't write to its own file, which is the safer setup and the default in the included webfaze.service.

Going back: if something is wrong after an update, Tools has Go back to the previous version. Then restart.

Updates need a working licence. Sites older than 0.9.6.4 update by hand.
