With double opt-in, new subscribers get an email asking them to confirm before they're added. It's recommended, required by law in some countries, and it keeps mistyped and fake addresses off your list.

Turn it on

  1. Open Newsletter → Settings (you need to be an administrator).
  2. Tick Ask new subscribers to confirm by email (double opt-in).
  3. Press Save.

Make sure email works first

The confirmation email goes through your site's mail settings. Set up Settings → Email and send a test email. Newsletter → Settings shows a warning while email isn't set up.

Other settings on the same screen

  • Sender name and Sender email: who campaigns come from. Left empty, they use Settings → Email. Your mail server must be allowed to send from this address.
  • Consent text: shown under sign-up forms and stored with each sign-up as the text the person agreed to. Left empty, a built-in text in your site's language is used.
  • Postal address: added to the end of every campaign. Anti-spam laws in many countries require it.
  • Emails per minute: keep this within your mail provider's limits.

What visitors see

With double opt-in on, a sign-up form or popup asks people to check their inbox instead of showing the usual thank-you message.

Adding people yourself

When you add a subscriber by hand or import a file under Newsletter → Subscribers, you must tick that they agreed to receive emails from you. Only add people who asked to be on your list.

Only confirmed subscribers are copied to Mailchimp or Brevo, if you connect them.
